For Christ and His Kingdom Recent News Wheaton Kicks Off 2009 Season - Mar 17, 2009The first week back from spring break, Wheaton will begin its 2009 season. On Saturday, March 21, Wheaton plays its first MCLA out-of-conference game against Grove City. This annual matchup began two years ago with Grove City besting the Thunder 9-6 in 2007 and 10-6 in 2008. We appreciate not only the compeition that this game provides, but the sportsmanship and fellowship that is seen between the two teams. Also, after the Grove City game, Wheaton will play the Penn State Erie Lions in the afternoon. The Lions are part of the National College Lacrosse League. This is the first time that these two teams will meet. Please pray for safety in travel and in competition. The Wheaton College lacrosse team prays for the Wren family of Colorado, the Kansas University lacrosse team and community. Jason Wren, a Kansas University lacrosse player, was found dead in his fraternity house. His father, Jay Wren, stated that alcohol was the cause of this tragedy. According to the Kansas lacrosse team, Jason was one of the hardest working players, though he was a freshman. He is remembered well in his hometown of Littleton, Co.
Wheaton prays that the Wren family is able to cope with this loss. Such a loss brings people to the doorstep of the frailty of human life. It is our prayer that everyone touched by the death of Jason is able to come together and find support among friends and family around them. We pray that God’s hand is easily visible and desperately sought after in this time. Wheaton Announces 2009 Roster - Dec 15, 2008 Coming off of a very promising offseason, the Wheaton College Lacrosse Program has announced its roster for the 2009 season. After reaching the semi-finals of the GRLC conference tournament, Wheaton graduated two seniors, Charlie Goeke and Adam Garrett. For the season of 2009, Wheaton Lacrosse will boast two senior captains Matt Morgan, and Steve Nelson, along with seniors Justin Nanfelt, Ted Cockle and Josh Smithers. The team intends to look to its seniors to lead the team to a third conference tournament bid in four years and to improve upon its best season in 2008. It will be exciting to see the contributions of the team's new players: Drew Isaacson, Justin Johanson, John Negley, Chase Pipkin, Luke Rabelhofer, Marc-Andre Simonpietri, and Dave Sneddon.
